Wave Energy Infrastructure
Mocean Utilities harnesses the perpetual energy of ocean waves to deliver utility-scale electricity and premium desalinated water — Africa's first, and the world's next.
What We Do
We develop, own and operate proprietary wave energy conversion systems that turn ocean surge and swell into electricity and clean water. No fuel. No emissions. No intermittency problem.
The WEROP system uses direct wave pressure to drive reverse osmosis — no electrical intermediary, no grid dependency. Optimised for Indian Ocean swell environments.
The Containerised Surge Device (CSD) array delivers near-baseload power to coastal grids. 62% capacity factor. Designed for the South African west coast surge regime.
Island communities, remote coastal installations, and grid-constrained municipalities gain reliable, locally-generated power and water from a single wave resource.

Utility-Scale Wave Electricity
A 3MW wave power array using Containerised Surge Devices. NDA signed with Eskom. Technical engagement at Group Executive level. Built for the west coast surge environment.
Proprietary Technology
Two decades of iteration, a TIA-funded sea trial, and the first wave-desalinated water on the African continent. The technology is ours — protected as trade secret and secured by first-mover advantage.
Heave-optimised for transitional-zone Indian Ocean swell. Direct hydraulic drive eliminates electrical conversion losses. PA11 spoolable pipeline, LG2 pressure components, Vesconite polymer bearings.
Surge-optimised for the South African west coast. Containerised for rapid deployment and rolling replacement. Arrays radiate seaward at 67m spacing — scalable from demonstration to utility scale.
2015 sea trial funded by the Technology Innovation Agency. First wave-desalinated water in Africa. RAEng Leaders in Innovation Fellowship 2016. 25+ years continuous development.
About
“We have spent 25 years building technology that the ocean validates every single day. The resource is inexhaustible. The question was never whether it could be done — it was whether we had the patience to do it properly.”
